Accuracy of Ultrasound Gender
Since my last article we have been back to the birthing center for another ultrasound. Once again even though
Mommy did all the right things by drinking lots of water beforehand and not visiting the restroom until the procedure was finished; our little one was still not willing to move into a favorable position to let us see if it is a boy or a girl.
After several attempts to get the baby to change its position, the technician decided that the mother was going to have to be the one to change her position, and then maybe the baby would as well.
After about 5 minutes with the mother face down and her bottom higher than her shoulders, the technician returned to resume the ultrasound. She had our daughter-in-law lie on her back again and she began moving the transducer across her abdomen once more. This must have continued for 2 or 3 minutes when suddenly she snapped a picture. There was silence. No one spoke.
Grandmother Can’t Wait!
Not able to stand it any longer I said “Can you see anything?” She replied “Yes.” Then silence. Having no clue what we were looking at and behaving like any interested, first time grandmother would I said: “What is it?” She answered very matter of factly, “It’s a girl.”
A chorus of “Oh my goodness! I can’t believe it! Yea!” was followed by a series of whoops, squeals and laughter, and then more expressions of joy for the next several minutes. I know without a doubt that this had to have been heard in the most distant corner of the busy birthing center this morning. However, no one scolded us for our disorderly conduct; they just smiled and seemed to celebrate with us.
What a wonderful surprise! I must go now. I have to call our friends and family and tell them the good news. Our God is so good!
